Ankit Tandon

Global Chief Business Officer, & CEO, SEA & ME OYO

Ankit Tandon is Global Chief Business Officer and CEO, Southeast Asia & Middle East (SEAME) at OYO. He has been part of OYO’s senior leadership team since 2015. He leads OYO’s Global Business Performance Management team that oversees all internal & external reporting and leads M&A for the company globally. He is in charge of Southeast Asia as its CEO. The region includes OYO’s core growth markets of Indonesia and Malaysia as well as other countries such as Thailand, Vietnam and the Philippines. Ankit is also the CEO of the Middle East region.

At OYO, he continues to lead various HR and people initiatives and is a nominee on the compensation committee of the board. He was instrumental in setting up OYO’s mid-segment business with OYO Townhouse, making it one of the leading brands in India as well as Indonesia, the UK and the US.

Ankit has also been involved in incubating companies and accelerator programmes, making him the go-to channel for growth-stage companies looking for acquisition/investment/mentorship opportunities. As part of the Huddle Accelerator programme, he mentors and helps 3 startups in very early stages of growth: a food company, an HR tech company & a supply chain SaaS player. As an angel investor, Ankit has invested in 20+ startups directly or via a fund.

Previously, Ankit was with McKinsey where he led business performance improvement projects and led digital transformation for some of the largest public sector banks in India. He also led organisational, digital and product transformation for private sector banks in India & Southeast Asia. He devised a market entry strategy for a foreign bank coming to India and led bancassurance channel improvement & productivity.

Before that, at ITC he headed the newly formed staples manufacturing department at the ITC food factory in Ranjangaon near Pune, with a workforce of 200+. He was also involved in the installation and commissioning of 2 manufacturing lines and establishing protocols for monitoring production efficiencies, among other things.

Ankit was recognised as among the top 100 customer experience professionals in India in 2017 by Paul Writer CX100 for driving robust omnichannel customer engagement initiatives for OYO. He was one of the only two hospitality sector leaders on this list.

Ankit is an alumnus of the Indian School of Business and IIT Madras. At ISB, he won the Torch Bearer award, which goes to about 5% of the class who have contributed to the ISB brand or the ISB student community through their initiatives and service, as well as featured on the Dean’s List, comprising the top 10% of the class by CGPA across campuses. At IIT Madras, Ankit graduated with the coveted Institute Blues recognition, among the highest possible recognition conferred by the institute on students, and also won the GE Foundation scholarship.
